Day 12 Post-Surgery

Surgery to put in the shunt took place around dinner time Monday night.  He was still pretty groggy and sore later that night, so I've been waiting to see how he was doing when I came back to the hospital this morning.  They felt like he was doing well enough to be discharged from the ICU, and he is now in a room on the regular floor.  Now we can finally start working towards getting better and stronger each day!  Some things will take some time, patience and hard work.  His vision (somewhat blurry and low peripheral), his physical strength (it's really hard to walk instead of shuffle when you've been in bed for 11 days straight), and his short term memory.  Each day specialists come in and work on some therapies with him.  They still aren't sure when he'll be released from the hospital, but he's heading in the right direction.  Thank you for your continued messages of love and support!

I'm pretty sure we won't be home for Thanksgiving.  And I celebrated my birthday in the hospital today.  I have received so many birthday wishes, and loved coming home to find some thoughtful gifts.  I know David will enjoy my candy bar birthday cake - his appetite is coming back, so I'll bring it to the hospital with me to share.  And the flowers are so cheery.

  1. I think that David loves the hospital food so much that he secretly planned to be there through Thanksgiving! Glad to hear the surgery went well. David is such a hard worker and with you by his side, I am sure there will be progress every day. Love you guys. Happy birthday my friend.

  4. So glad he's out of ICU now. Have a very blessed and peaceful Thanksgiving. There is so much to be thankful for, even in adversity and you've been such a marvelous example of that.
