Fasting and Prayer
As we approach David's surgery date, we and our family members will be fasting and praying this Thursday - for the surgeons to feel inspired and able to do their best work, for a successful surgery, for David's full recovery, and for personal strength and firm faith as we continue to face each new situation. Many of you have asked what you can do to help, but so far there hasn't been much we could think of. Fasting and praying for us on Thursday is something you could do (if you'd like!) that would really help us. I know from experience what power there is in it. Some years ago my mother had kidney failure and had been on dialysis for a month. The doctors said the longer she was on dialysis, the worse her chances were of ever coming off of it. Our extended family held a special fast and prayer for her, and not long afterwards she no longer needed dialysis, and has not since then. So I know that your fasting and prayers will make a difference if it is the Lord's will.
And, thank you for what many of you have done. I know we haven't been very helpful in giving you ideas in the "what can we do to help you?" category. Some of you have been creative and thoughtful and have just done something for us, anyways! We have felt humbled and overwhelmed with your thoughtful acts. Thank you. We have felt your prayers in a very tangible way that is hard to describe, but is very real. Feeling the love,
